Workshops
School of Engineering and Applied Science presents:
2026 Workshop on Flow Measurement Techniques in Extreme Environments (FlowX-2)
This two-day workshop will unite leaders in fluid dynamics, chemistry, and material sciences to tackle the challenges of measuring and modeling corrosion and erosion phenomena. These phenomena are extreme, they happen at microscopic scales with cumulative effects over long periods. Furthermore, corrosion rates depend strongly on turbulence, surface finish, microbial activity, etc. Corrosion is inherent across many environments, ranging from maritime, power plants, chemical plants, aerospace, etc. Communities have leveraged progress in hardware and software to advance tools and develop remediation strategies. However, they typically operate in siloed environments and it would be opportune to bring them together to discuss recent developments, and identify synergy and collaboration opportunities.
When: August 24-25, 2026

Bootcamps
Elliott School's Institute for International Science and Technology Policy and School of Engineering and Applied Science presents:
2026 National Security and Naval Power Bootcamp
The National Security and Naval Power Bootcamp is a week-long, residential course designed for students to explore policy, security, and technical issues at the intersection of national security and naval power. By the end of the course, attendees will understand the strategic and diplomatic values of sea power and the importance of oceans to national security policy, as well as how the Navy maintains freedom of the seas. They will learn how the work of scientists and engineers is leveraged to implement policies and will leave with an understanding of naval and national security policy dilemmas and potential solutions.
The NSNP Bootcamp is open to graduate students and post-docs. There is no course fee. Dorm accommodations and most meals will be provided. Space is limited - apply early.
When: May 31st - June 5th 2026
Where: The George Washington University downtown campus
