Simultaneous PIV in water and air below capillary waves

Particle Image Velocimetry - PIV

PIV is the modern standard for measuring velocity fields in turbulent and complex flows. In PIV, patches of particles are tracked as they crossed flow sections illuminated by lasers.

MTV below capillary waves

Molecular Tagging Velocimetry - MTV

MTV follows similar principles than PIV, but relies on molecular tracers are a tagged with a dedicated laser.  It complements PIV and has high spatial resolution.

Plenoptic 3.0 MTV

Plenoptic 3.0

We have implemented a new approach of plenoptic imaging at micro and macro-scales that enable volumetric imaging with a single camera.  Plenoptic 3.0 transforms a single camera into an array of mini cameras, which then enables traditional tomographic reconstructions. We have applied the technique to PIV/PTV and MTV.

PLIF Profilometry

This is a standard approach.  A two-dimensional profile of an interface is identified with a laser plane and camera imaging from the air side.

TESI-PLIF Profilometry

In an iteration of the PLIF profilometry, the laser sheet is changed to a structured illumination sheet.  Ray tracing enables to reconstruct the interface in 3D in front of the structured laser sheet.
